Where is Royal Mile Backpackers located?
We’re located right on Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile at 105 High Street, EH1 1SG, in the heart of the Old Town. Most major attractions, pubs, cafés, and sights are within easy walking distance.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 3:00pm to 11:00pm. Check-out is by 10:30am. Reception is open from 8:00am–11:00am and 3:00pm–11:00pm. If you arrive outside these hours, assistance is available at our sister hostel, High Street Hostel, across the road.
Can I store my luggage before check-in or after check-out?
Yes. Luggage storage is available at High Street Hostel across the street, both before check-in and after check-out.
Is Wi-Fi included?
Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel.
What’s included in my stay?
Fresh bed linen, free Wi-Fi, free tea, coffee and hot chocolate, hot showers, lockers beside each bed, free towel hire, and access to shared communal spaces.
Is breakfast included?
Breakfast is not included as standard, but a continental breakfast is available daily for a small additional cost. The shared kitchen and dining area is open 24/7.
Do you have a kitchen?
Yes. The fully equipped self-catering kitchen is available to all guests and is a popular social space throughout the day and evening.
Are towels provided?
Yes. Towels are available to hire free of charge.
Is there laundry available?
Laundry facilities and services are available for a small fee.
What types of rooms do you offer?
Dormitory accommodation only, including mixed dorms and female-only dorms. All rooms include secure lockers and fresh linen.
Do the beds have power sockets?
Yes. Each bed has access to power sockets and individual lighting.
What are the bathroom facilities like?
Bathrooms are clean, well maintained, and equipped with hot showers. Separate facilities are available for mixed and female guests.
Is Royal Mile Backpackers a quiet hostel?
The hostel has a relaxed, social atmosphere without being a party hostel. Quiet hours are observed later in the evening.
Is there an age limit?
Yes. Guests must be 18 years or older to stay.
Can staff help with tours and local tips?
Yes. Our team is happy to help with city tips, restaurant and pub recommendations, and booking tours around Edinburgh and the Highlands.

About Us
We’re a small and cosy hostel situated smack bang in the city-centre overlooking Scotland’s most famous street – The Royal Mile. Located halfway between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, you can’t get much closer to the city centre attractions; bars, cafés, restaurants and nightclubs.
Please note that our reception is only open between 8am-11am and 3pm-10pm. Outside of these times, help is available 24 hours a day at our sister venue High Street Hostel, including if you need to check in late. The hostel door is locked outside of reception hours, and if you are arriving early you can leave your luggage across the street at High Street Hostel. We do not offer early check-ins or late check-outs.
With our open plan kitchen and dining area, making new friends is easy and there is plenty of space to chill and chat with guests and staff in our cosy lounge area with it’s own open fire. Our dorms are light and bright and our bathrooms are clean and spacious.
